At its Dec. 15 meeting the Calimesa City Council confirmed its slate of regional appointments for 2026, approved several ad hoc committee changes — including combining the fire and sheriff ad hoc committees into a single public-safety ad hoc — and heard a report from the Calimesa Chamber of Commerce.
The city clerk introduced the annual appointments process and the mayor outlined specific nominations for transportation, water and other regional bodies. The mayor proposed that Council member Edgar Garcia (listed in the agenda packet) replace the mayor on certain committees and that Council member Cundiff and Mayor Pro Tem Manley serve on a consolidated public-safety ad hoc. Council members said maintaining representation on county and regional boards is especially important for small cities to compete for limited funds.
Council member Manley said public-safety issues overlap between sheriff and fire concerns, and reported that the sheriff ad hoc reviewed proposals for surveillance cameras at Summerlin Park: "We're going through the proposals, and we have some future meetings planned," Manley said. The council unanimously confirmed the recommended appointments and committee modifications.
The council then heard the Calimesa Chamber of Commerce report. Melissa Monroe, chamber president, said the chamber hired a new assistant, Brianne, and is organizing an installation dinner and networking breakfast in January; she also said the chamber's Dec. 6 parade went well and thanked the city, sheriff and fire departments for their coordination.
Next steps: staff will record and publish the confirmed appointment roster for 2026; the newly formed public-safety ad hoc will schedule meetings to review public-safety proposals, including surveillance-camera procurement and related budget needs.
