Colfax commissioners approve several public-safety and infrastructure contracts and grant ratifications

The Colfax County Board of Commissioners approved a package of procurement and grant actions supporting public safety and infrastructure.

Commissioners authorized advertising RFB2025-03 to solicit bids for the Miami Fire Veil Station water-storage and pump work to supplement domestic water for the Miami fire district. Mike Provine of Molson Corbin said the project will include tanks, pumps and piping and that bids may be opened in late January.

The board also approved a construction agreement (RFB2025-02) with Northern Mountain Constructors Inc. for the Bartlett Subdivision after the county receives required bonds, insurance and GRAMA forms; the chair was authorized to sign once those documents are in order.

For fire-station work, the board approved Task Order 4 with Molson Corbin to deliver design and construction-phase services for a new Black Lake Fire Station. Provine said design costs are estimated at $395,876.85 and will cover permitting, drainage and coordination with the Department of Transportation; construction financing will be pursued through DFA grants.

At the county airport in Angel Fire, commissioners approved a task order for taxiway A rehabilitation design and environmental documentation at an estimated $174,025.70 (excluding gross receipts tax). Provine said FAA and state aviation funds are expected to cover most design costs (95% FAA this fiscal year), with a 2.5% state contribution and a 2.5% local land-value match.

Separately, staff ratified an NMDOT Aviation Division grant to cover one-third of the cost of a Jet-A fuel truck; the remaining shares (about $80,000 each) will be paid by the village, county and state aviation. The truck was expected to be delivered by Dec. 19.

Each motion passed by roll call. Commissioners asked staff to finalize required documentation and pursue grant funding where indicated before construction or purchasing begins.
