Selma adopts citywide injury-and-illness prevention program required by Cal/OSHA

The Selma City Council adopted a citywide Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) on Tuesday to meet Cal/OSHA requirements and centralize employee safety training.
Deputy City Manager Fowler said the fire department initially developed the program and staff worked with HR and RMA's safety team to review it. "CalOSHA requires that we have a, plan such as this, the injury and illness prevention program," Fowler said, adding the IIPP will be trained on during new-employee orientations and on a citywide basis.
Council members pressed staff on how the program will identify physical hazards that need repair (for example, sunken bricks at Veterans Plaza and Pioneer Village flooring). Fowler said staff is compiling a prioritized list of safety concerns and will bring funding requests into the budget process for specific repairs. The city reported it has begun claims and liability reviews with its insurance partner and expects workers' compensation claim-review activity to continue.
Council voted to adopt the IIPP and asked staff to return with policy updates and implementation timelines and to provide records of training for compliance with potential Cal/OSHA inspections.
