Council approves lease and local purchase path for five patrol vehicles, adds $10,000 amendment

Police Chief Alcaraz told council the department budgeted $80,000 for lease payments on five new patrol units but asked for a $10,000 amendment to fully fund outfitting one canine-capable vehicle.
"We had already originally budgeted $80,000 for this year's lease payments on 5 new patrol vehicles," Alcaraz said, and explained that a canine vehicle requires additional outfitting costs. He described coordination with Selma Dodge and Enterprise Fleet so vehicles can be delivered locally and upfitted before entering service.
Council members noted the local sales-tax benefit from having vehicles delivered in Selma and praised the local vendor collaboration. The council approved the procurement plan and the requested budget amendment on a roll-call vote.
Staff will proceed to finalize lease documents through Enterprise and coordinate the upfitting timeline with Selma Dodge and the fleet vendor.
