The Beaches, Parks & Recreation Commission accepted and filed its updated 2025—6 work plan on Wednesday after staff reviewed eight priority projects and progress from subcommittees.
Staff highlighted completed work (the city's cost-of-service study) and upcoming projects: concept design reviews for playground replacements (staff noted budget pressure and rising costs), a dog park survey to inform design and siting, Meadows design work, formation and updates for subcommittees (North Beach community engagement portal, beach sand policy, aquatics partnership/policy and Santa Castles for Sloan), and a proposed timeline for returning to the commission with specific items in February.
Following the work-plan acceptance, staff reminded the commission that the city council adopted the fee schedule resulting from the cost-of-service study and that new fees will go into effect Jan. 1, 2026. Staff also noted city offices will be on a year-end furlough/closure from Dec. 25 through Jan. 4, with business resuming Jan. 5.
The commission also discussed meeting cadence and subcommittee coordination, and scheduled the next regular meeting for Feb. 10, 2026 at 6:00 p.m., when several work-plan items are expected to return for further consideration.
Next steps: staff will return with subcommittee updates and the targeted materials commissioners requested for February meetings.
