Sylvania City Council on Dec. 1 approved a change order that reduces the contract for the Silvertown Drive waterline replacement and resurfacing project by $80,625.75, a reduction staff described as 8.6% under the original bid amount.
Mr. Shaw reported crews replaced about 3,800 feet of 8‑inch waterline and completed resurfacing work. He told council the contractor used a narrower trenching bucket and less base pavement removal than expected, producing notable savings. Mr. Shaw cited roughly $52,000 saved on trench width and about $43,000 of material savings tied to the narrower equipment use; he said OhioX performed the work and produced a quality finished product.
Council introduced and approved Ordinance 137‑2025 as an emergency measure to accept Change Order No. 1 and decrease the contract amount by $80,625.75. Members praised the contractor for the efficient work and authorized final acceptance under the terms presented.
