The Fall River City Council handled a cluster of confirmations, routine approvals and financial orders during its December meeting.
Appointments and confirmations: The council confirmed Paul Acosta Cullen to the Library Board of Trustees and approved reappointments of Anne Rocket Sperling, Ronald Kaplan, Sharon L. Quinn and Fran Raclan. Each confirmation was moved and carried on the council floor.
Labor and donations: The council accepted and placed on file a resubmitted memorandum of agreement between the city and AFSCME Council 93 Local 3177 and adopted the order. The council also accepted a $10,000 donation from Firehouse Dogs to support the Fall River Fire Department’s K-9 program.
Licenses and business matters: The council approved multiple auto body and repair license renewals, including licenses listed for Ryan Viera (DBA Amy’s Auto) and Dylan Jarabek (DBA Top Tier Auto Body) despite a police chief recommendation concerning Jarabek’s application. The council also approved new taxi vehicle applications for Fall River Taxi Service Inc., accepted planning board minutes for November, and approved minutes and public hearing records from Dec. 9.
Budget transfers: The council adopted an order transferring $189,682.62 from the reserve fund to various city departments and later adopted an order transferring $39,468.42 from facilities salaries to police salaries. Both motions were made, seconded and carried.
Ordinances and committee actions: The Committee on Ordinances and Legislation recommended leave to withdraw a proposed miscellaneous traffic ordinance on Pine Street, recommended an emergency preamble and passage through readings for a handicap parking ordinance (roll call recorded as all "Yes"), and recommended referral of a proposed ordinance striking sections 2-131 and 2-132 relative to loan orders; the council moved and carried the committee recommendations on the floor.
The meeting closed with acknowledgements and farewell remarks to departing councilors and an adjournment.
