Peyton Kenny, a senior at Trenton High School, presented an NHS (National Honor Society) project to restore veteran headstones at Bloomdale Cemetery. Kenny said the project identified a little over 100 veteran headstones (initially estimated at ~70), organized roughly 30 student volunteers (including exchange students), and worked with local sponsors—Enforcers Motorcycle Club, Expert Heating & Cooling (Angelotti), Trenton Sons Allegiance (flags), and Elliot's Bakery (donuts and hot chocolate)—to supply materials and refreshments.
Kenny described the work: cleaning headstones, digging out sunken markers so inscriptions could be read, and documenting before-and-after photos. She noted the group could not fully reset some stones because that would require heavier equipment and additional permissions.
During public comment, Howard Hammes reported the Boy Scouts of America collected 488 bags of food during their Scouting for Food drive and thanked volunteers including Trenton High School NHS students and the Trenton Rotary Club. Tom Kenny also praised the student project and said Congresswoman Debbie Dingell attended the Trenton Educational Foundation event and recorded a thank-you video for the volunteers.
What’s next: Council thanked the presenters and volunteers; no formal actions were taken on these community projects.
