New officers sworn in; lieutenants honored for leadership training

Chief Hawkins told council the department was awarding pins to two lieutenants — Scott Stadler and Greg Brewster — who completed a Staff and Command leadership program spanning nine months and roughly 360 hours of training.
The chief described Brewster’s research on holsters and Stadler’s work to implement a citizens police academy tied to the new station’s community room. "Both of them are being awarded a pin for their work," Chief Hawkins said.
The council also formally swore in new officers Colin Slater and Mason Walls. Slater and Walls each repeated the oath of office and family members pinned badges. The chief noted Slater attended Schoolcraft College and academy training, and said Mason Walls is a Trenton graduate who ranked third overall in academics and third in firearms at the academy.
Separately, the controller presented a police and fire pension actuarial valuation showing the current year required contribution of $2,830,680 and a projected decrease to $2,807,971 beginning in the next fiscal period; the funded ratio rose from 71.2% to 73.5% (market value ~76%). Council received the valuation and placed it on file.
