Facilities committee forwards several change orders and contract awards to December board meeting

The North Penn School District Facilities & Operations Committee voted unanimously to recommend a package of construction change orders and contract awards to the board for action in December. Committee members advanced combined GC change orders totaling $34,997.52 and several contract awards after staff presentations and brief discussion.
Mr. Bill Slaughter summarized the recommended items for bid package 1 and related contracts, including a $34,997.52 combined change order for general-contractor items (privacy hardware, urinal screens, wall tile replacement, a privacy bulkhead and replacement ADA pool lift) and a remaining GC allowances balance of $368,140.75. “The total amount of the change orders is $34,997.52,” Slaughter said, and later reported the remaining GC allowance balance.
The committee also recommended moving forward electrical change orders for bid pack 1 (total $11,375.24), a $15,566.22 time-and-material change order to MICA Mechanical for heat-pump work at Penfield Middle School, and a contract award of $524,500 to Kelly Brothers LLC for the general-contractor portion of the districtwide elementary school door hardware project.
Staff presented the electrical prime contract for the door-hardware work and recommended S and S Electric Services Incorporated for the electrical scope at $1,566,000 after cross-checking the figure against historic costs from a prior Gwen Noor project. Integrated Security Systems was recommended for a Genetec security and access migration rep contract of $159,732 (PEPPM cooperative) for initial migration at the high school, and a requested 40‑foot easement from Talmadge Township at Nash Elementary was recommended to move forward (conveyance to the district for $1, with a letter of support for the township’s TASA grant).
Staff also recommended amendments to Johnson Controls’ purchase orders for chiller repairs and a ready-purge system across several sites totaling $36,142 (bringing that contract to $156,531 from $120,389). Slaughter noted that the original budget for that work was $244,936 and that the amendment keeps the program under budget.
Each item was moved, seconded and approved by voice/hand vote in committee; the committee’s action was unanimously in favor of forwarding the listed items to the December 10 board action meeting for final approval.
What happens next: these recommendations will be considered by the full school board at its December action meeting; staff will provide standard contract documents, bid tabulations and supporting material as part of the board packet.
