APS audit committee hears timeline update from external auditors; agenda and minutes approved

The Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education Audit Committee on Dec. 16, 2025 approved its meeting agenda and the minutes from Nov. 13, 2025, and received an update from external auditors CliftonLarsonAllen on the district's fiscal year 2025 audit.
Sheila Quintana Filosa, CPA, director of state and local government at CliftonLarsonAllen, told the committee that the Office of Management and Budget has released an updated compliance supplement that allows the auditors to finalize single-audit testing. "That new deadline for the single audit is February 9," Quintana Filosa said. She added auditors "anticipate being able to submit in early January," while maintaining a Jan. 20 target to obtain necessary signatures from district representatives and school officials.
Vice President Courtney Jackson called the meeting to order. Board Member Josefina Dominguez moved to adopt the Dec. 16 agenda; Board Member Heather Benavides seconded the motion and the roll call vote passed. Later, Benavides moved to approve the minutes of the Nov. 13 Audit Committee meeting; Dominguez seconded and the minutes were approved by roll call.
Dominguez asked whether any findings have already been identified or resolved. An unidentified district staff member replied that any findings are handled in executive session and "will be coming in the executive session when we wrap up the audit," indicating that substantive audit findings were not disclosed during the public meeting.
The committee heard that the district has provided auditors the information necessary to complete the financial statement audit but that finalizing the submission requires signatures from district and school personnel who may be on break during the holidays. The auditors and district staff did not present substantive findings during the public portion of the meeting.
The committee announced its next meeting for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, to be held virtually and streamed on the APS Board of Education YouTube channel. The meeting adjourned with seasonal remarks and thanks to staff and auditors.
