Manteno board approves meeting schedule, a ban on synthetic intoxicants and a sign variance for Domino's

At its Dec. 15 meeting, the Manteno Village Board voted to approve the village's 2026 schedule of meetings and the 2026 holiday schedule after a motion from Trustee Geske and a second from Trustee Zimbelman. The motion passed on roll call.

The board considered and adopted Ordinance 25-27, an amendment to Title 4 of the Manteno Municipal Code to add section 4-1-4-19 addressing dangerous synthetic intoxicants that change formulas to evade controlled-substance classifications. Chief (name not given in the transcript) explained the ordinance's purpose, saying these synthetic drugs are sometimes sold legally at retail and described them colloquially as "gas station heroin." The ordinance was moved and passed on roll call.

The board also approved Ordinance 25-29, granting a variance from sections 9-13-14 of the municipal code to permit a second premises sign at 310 South Creek Drive, the building housing Domino's Pizza. Village staff told the board the adjacent tenant space remained vacant, so the second sign was not expected to be installed immediately. Trustee Berry moved the variance; Trustee Vaughn seconded and the board approved it on roll call.

During the votes the board recorded roll-call support from trustees present. No amendments to the ordinances were recorded during the meeting. The clerk and staff will publish the ordinances and the 2026 schedule to the village website per usual procedure.
