Members of the Pittsburg Library board asked Granite County commissioners to place a mill-levy question before voters in the June 2026 primary so the library can secure sustainable funding for operations and expanded hours.
Kathy Gillis, who said she and other trustees were present, explained the library board intends to propose an additional levy amount to reach an estimated $110,000 annual budget to support increased staffing and programming. Commissioners and county staff explained recent tax-code changes (HB20) alter how levies are expressed to voters and that the library district, as a taxing authority, can draft a resolution and submit ballot language directly to the clerk and recorder.
Staff advised the board that final resolution language and the 85-day filing deadline for the primary must be observed; commissioners and the library discussed outreach methods for voter education, including Friends-of-the-Library fact sheets and town-hall-style events. The board will prepare a draft resolution for the clerk and recorder and work with staff on timing.
