Davis resident tells commission peripheral neighborhood lacks bus service

Kim Garza addressed the commission during the public-comment period saying her neighborhood at 5663 Marden Drive in the far corner of the city is omitted from printed bus-route maps and lacks transit service.
"We're out here and we need the same access to public transportation like everybody else in Davis has," Garza said, describing outreach she had done to SACOG and Unitrans and asking the city to pursue funding and keep residents informed.
Garza said she attended a public outreach table at a farmers market and spoke with Unitrans and other agency representatives, and she urged commissioners to recognize the "unmet need" in peripheral neighborhoods when planning routes and spending grant funds.
Staff acknowledged the comment and noted ongoing coordination with regional agencies. No formal motion or action on route changes or additional funding was taken at the meeting; staff and commissioners flagged transit coverage as a topic to incorporate into forthcoming short-range-transit and active-transportation plans and outreach activities.
The commission will receive further briefs on short-range transit planning in December and will have additional opportunities to hear public input and weigh service changes, staff said.
