Gardner City license commission approves 2026 renewals, activates online amendment form

The Gardner City License Commission on Dec. 16 approved all complete 2026 liquor license renewals and poker-machine (AAD) permits listed on the agenda, and staff said it has created an online amendment form for license changes that will go into effect Jan. 1, 2026.

The action cleared the renewals by voice vote. Chair (Speaker 1) moved to approve the full slate of complete A/B/C liquor license renewals "as posted on the agenda," after which the chair confirmed by voice vote that the licenses were approved for the agenda. The commission also approved corporate permit renewals and AAD/poker-permit renewals by the same procedure.

Licensing staff (Speaker 4) told the commission that the new amendment application on the OpenGov permitting portal will centralize documentation, make application status visible to staff and licensees, and enable the city to collect the previously approved $100 amendment fee. "Starting on 01/01/2026, anybody who has an amendment to the liquor license needs to fill out that application also," licensing staff (Speaker 4) said, adding that the portal should reduce paper files and allow shared access to documentation.

Why it matters: centralizing amendment requests and required documentation on the permitting portal aims to streamline processing for both applicants and city staff and to reduce manual tracking across email and paper files. Staff noted the change will help the licensing office manage workload and make application status transparent.

What happens next: applicants with pending or future license amendments will be required to submit through the new OpenGov amendment form after Jan. 1, 2026, and staff will collect the $100 fee when the amendment is required. The commission adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
