City announces SR 224 roundabout opening and winter detour for Red Mountain project

Public works staff told council the roundabout at Rupert and Van Geesen will open Dec. 8 and that a following phase will close the route to Keene Road and close the Paradise/Van Geesen intersection to through traffic for four to five months; residents have been notified and detour maps will be posted online.
Public works staff (Roscoe) updated the council on the State Route 224 Red Mountain project. He said contractors finished the roundabout at Rupert and Van Geesen in Belmont and that intersection access will open on Monday, Dec. 8. Roscoe said the next construction phase will close the segment from that intersection to the Keene Road intersection and will close Paradise and Van Geesen to through traffic for approximately four to five months while the new roundabout is built. Residents in the affected area have been provided notice on how to access their homes; the general detour through town will remain in place for the winter.
