Pitt County approves Meals on Wheels funding, appointments and routine business

The Pitt County Board of Commissioners approved a series of routine and targeted items during the Dec. 15 meeting, including supplemental funding to the Pitt County Council on Aging and multiple board appointments.
The board approved a one-time reallocation of $16,900 from savings in a lawn service contract to fund Meals on Wheels for 10 people off the agency’s wait list for the remainder of the fiscal year. County manager Janice Gallagher and Commissioner Rochelle Brown said these were not new funds but a reallocation of savings realized during contracting; staff identified the savings as available within existing maintenance-of-effort funding streams. Commissioner Nunnally and others supported the motion, which passed on a voice vote.
The board also approved recommended appointments and reappointments to the fire district commission and to the local Fireman’s Relief Fund board as presented in the meeting packet. Commissioners discussed ensuring district representation and reserved the right to adjust selections if township residency needs required it.
Other routine business included acceptance of November financial and tax collection reports and several ceremonial recognitions and resolutions honoring local civic and school achievements. The board closed the public portion of the meeting by approving minutes and moving to a closed session under North Carolina statutory authority to discuss privileged/confidential information, attorney–client matters and real-property negotiation.
What happens next: County staff will implement the Meals on Wheels allocation immediately and will report back on appointments if any district adjustments are made.
