The Anne Arundel County Council on Dec. 1 unanimously elected Julia K. Hummer as chair and Peter I. Smith as vice chair by adopting Resolution 35-25.
Councilmembers moved to suspend Rule 4104 to take up the resolution out of order; the motion to suspend carried 7–0 on a roll call. The secretary then read Resolution 35-25, which cites section 3.2(a) of the Anne Arundel County Charter as the authority for electing council leadership from among its membership. The roll call that followed recorded unanimous support, and the chair called the resolution adopted.
Councilmembers offered brief remarks of thanks and recognition to outgoing leadership for the past year’s work. The council then proceeded to its scheduled agenda items.
The adoption of Resolution 35-25 is the formal record of the council’s leadership for the coming year. No substantive policy changes or procedural consequences were attached to the resolution beyond confirming the chamber’s elected officers.
