County approves legal-services agreement for regional sewer project pending council funding

Dana Lewis, a member of the Dubois County Council and the county’s Regional Sewer District board, presented a negotiated legal-services agreement addressed to the Haysville Sewer Project. Lewis said the contract would help the RSD organize, take greater operational responsibility and seek funding to advance the project.
Lewis told commissioners the contract term runs from Jan. 1, 2026, to May 31, 2027, and carries a not-to-exceed cap of $45,000. "The initial funds would help the RSD get current on the project and assist the county in that nature," Lewis said.
Commissioners said they supported the agreement in principle but noted the county lacks the money to sign the document immediately; they approved the agreement pending county-council funding. The motion passed by voice vote.
Next steps: The agreement will be executed if the county council provides the necessary appropriation. Lewis and county staff said the work would include legal assistance and advocacy to move the sewer project forward and pursue funding.
