Dubois County approves $50,000 ADA transition-plan contract with consultant

The Dubois County Board of Commissioners approved a contract Dec. 15 with Lochmiller (and subconsultants) to update the county’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) transition plan. Speaker 3 described the agreement as a $50,000 lump-sum contract "not to exceed" and said county council previously approved a $50,000 line item for the project.
Speaker 3 told commissioners the contract covers three milestones including on-site assessments by a sub-architect firm and site visits to identify barriers. "The price is coming back from the sub...Lockmiller has justified the cost to me," Speaker 3 said, adding that the county attorney reviewed legal language and requested revisions that have been incorporated.
Commissioners discussed the appropriation and whether to sign the contract at this meeting; Speaker 3 said a signed contract is required for funds to be covered, and the board voted to approve the agreement. County officials said the transition plan and accompanying updates (maps, policies, website updates and grievance procedures) will make the county eligible for state and federal funding and help identify accessibility improvements.
Next steps: Consultant will begin the three milestone tasks identified in the agreement; the county will receive deliverables and will be responsible for implementing changes identified in the report.
