Coppell Fire Department honored for ISO Class 1 rating, marking nearly two decades at top level

Chief Richardson presented the city with a plaque recognizing Coppell Fire Department's Insurance Services Office (ISO) Class 1 classification, noting the State Fire Marshal approved the updated ISO classification on Nov. 26, 2025 (ISO updates are published in April and October). He said Coppell has maintained Class 1 status for 17 consecutive years and emphasized the rigorous evaluation process that fewer than 1% of departments nationwide achieve.
"This achievement would not be possible without the continued support of you, our elected officials," Chief Richardson said, and he recognized multiple city departments — public works/engineering, streets, fleet, communications/dispatch, HR, code enforcement, enterprise solutions and finance — and then introduced his command staff.
Chief Richardson explained the practical implications: ISO Class 1 influences property-insurance grading, signals a highly effective emergency response system, and can be a factor in economic-development decisions because developers and site selectors view Class 1 communities as reliable. Council members responded with thanks and praise; several members linked the rating to faster EMS/fire response, the need to maintain equipment and the value of community investment.
The council made no formal action beyond recognition and public thanks.
Chief Richardson requested the plaque be displayed and the mayor and council thanked department members for their years of service and cross-department collaboration.
