Lake Central publications recognized after students win national journalism awards

Advisors to Lake Central Publications recognized student achievements at the board meeting after 22 students attended the Journalism Education Association national convention in Nashville.
The advisor said students competed in on-site "write-off" contests and other categories against more than 1,500 contestants in those events. Named student recognitions included Lillian Hobbins (honorable mention, editorial writing), Sophie LaPointe (honorable mention, feature writing), Katie Ponson (honorable mention, press law and ethics), Elena Gramala (honorable mention, graphic design/advertising), Victoria Amtmeyer (honorable mention, first-year photo), Madeline Bush (excellent, yearbook copy/caption sports) and Mia Legaspi (superior, news magazine layout). The advisor said last year’s yearbook won "best in show," placing 10th nationally in its category.
Advisors encouraged parents and community members to congratulate the students and thanked family members and community supporters who attended the recognition.
