Daly City library group announces $27,700 in grants for children's area and devices

Clayne Koo, president of the Daly City Public Library Associates, told the city council on Dec. 8 that DCPLA secured three grants totaling $27,700 to upgrade the children's area at a branch and to buy new Launchpad devices for patrons.
Koo said Genentech provided $15,000 and the Gordon L. King Jr. Memorial grant provided $7,000 toward children's-area upgrades; a third grant, cited as from the Town of Colma for $5,700, will fund additional Launchpad devices for the four Daly City branches. He said Launchpad content targets ages 0-5 and that the library will expand collections for older children and teens.
Councilmembers thanked DCPLA for sustained fundraising and partnership; the mayor and council noted the city increased direct grants to the library system to $56,200 this year from $42,000 last year. Koo said DCPLA has donated nearly $1,000,000 to the libraries since 2011 and marked its 15th anniversary next year.
DCPLA said the grants will support children's programming and device circulation; Koo invited further questions and collaboration with the city and donors.
