Transportation committee cites Long Draft safety gains, readies master-plan input

Bernie Locascio, chair of Gaithersburg’s Transportation Committee, briefed the council on the committee’s 2025 activities and 2026 priorities at the Dec. 8 work session.
Locascio highlighted two accomplishments: coordinated advocacy that led to county safety improvements at Pheasant Run Drive and Hartley Place on Long Draft Road following a serious pedestrian crash, and the committee’s Bike to Work Day events on May 15 with two pit stops and partner organizations providing outreach and supplies.
He said the committee is fully staffed with seven members and will focus next year on providing input to the transportation element of the Build Gaithersburg 2040 master plan update and advocating for pedestrian and bicycle safety projects on county and state roads, including two problem intersections on Great Seneca Highway. Locascio thanked staff and council liaisons who supported the committee’s work and said the group will continue to spotlight safety needs that require cooperation with county agencies.
