Commissioner Tom reported that Pantry Plus More, supported by donors including the Hayhurst family, distributed more than $125,000 worth of food in five weeks and handled more than 113 emergency food orders for student families.
Tom singled out local donors and partners — the Hayhurst family ($125,000), Garrick Electric, Chesapeake Ridge Hospital, Jeremy Posey, and others — and praised volunteer turnout, including many families who brought children to help. "In the last 5 weeks ... we distributed over a $125,000 worth of food in 5 weeks," Tom said.
Commissioners also described a ribbon-cutting for two new respite cabins at Mon Health intended to provide short-term lodging for families of patients. The cabins, described as manufactured/prefab units, were reported to cost about $80,000 each. Officials suggested the model could be considered for county park cabin replacements.
