Three Rivers board approves minutes, personnel actions, donations and President Pro Tem nomination

The Three Rivers Local School District Board of Education on Dec. 9 approved a set of routine and operational items, including personnel contracts, a van sale and the district’s reading improvement plan.
During the superintendent’s report, administratively recommended items labeled A through N were presented as a single block for approval. The list included one-year nonteaching contracts (van and bus drivers), a sub-custodian appointment, a resignation and a retirement notice, athletic and supplemental contract recommendations (including Brianna Day as Taylor High School theater technical director), and the sale of a district van for $4,300 to Rodney Wheeler. Superintendent Sexton presented the items and asked the board to approve them as submitted. A board member moved to approve the block; another seconded, and board members recorded their assent by voice vote. The motion passed.
The reading improvement plan for kindergarten through third grade, included in the packet and slated to be posted on the district website after board approval, was presented as part of the superintendent’s operational items. District staff said the plan documents current intervention periods beyond the instructional day and proposed quarterly data tracking to monitor progress toward the state’s 80% benchmark for the relevant metric.
The board also approved routine procedural business, including dispensing with the reading of the Nov. 11, 2025 minutes and a recommendation from the vice president to accept community donations: $500 from Cheryl Hein for Jackie Cares, $500 from the Cleves 3 Rivers Kiwanis Club for Jackie Cares camp invention, $4,500 from Benjamin and Michelle Richards for Taylor Tiny Homes, $6,000 from VISTRO for the Taylor High School Career Academy program, and $2,000 from VISTA for Jackie Cares. The items were recommended by the vice president and approved on the board’s voice vote.
In other business the board nominated and approved Garen Evans to serve as president pro tem for the Jan. 6, 2026 organizational meeting; the nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote.
What happens next: The reading improvement plan will be posted on the district website after the board’s approval, and the district will begin tracking the intervention and assessment data described in the plan to measure growth toward the state benchmark.
