The North Providence School Committee on Wednesday approved a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Prudent RX, a benefit arrangement the superintendent said will subsidize high‑cost, tier‑4 prescription medications for district employees.
Superintendent Gojo told the committee the trust, which provides employee health insurance, alerted the district to the available benefit. He said the district currently has "probably maybe about a dozen people" who access tier‑4 drugs and that the district and union leaders met with the trust to review the proposal. "It's a win win for the district. It's a win win for our members. It's been vetted by our legal counsel as well," Gojo said.
Gojo asked the committee to approve the enclosed MOA for Local 1033, and identical MOAs for Local 2435 and Local 920. Committee members moved, seconded and approved the MOAs by voice vote.
The superintendent characterized the arrangement as not costing the district or members at this time and as a procedural subsidy that affects claims for the district's benefit administration.
Next steps: implementation through the trust and union MOAs; staff will continue coordination with union leadership and the trust.
