The La Verne Public Library reopened for checkout service this week, Library Director Donna Bebout told the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Dec. 4.
"The doors are officially open for checking out items," Bebout said, and she credited the city IT team for restoring circulation capability even though patron public computers remain unavailable.
Bebout said staff checked in 1,204 items after reopening and reported the driver’s license kiosk was used 53 times in one week while the library was closed. Story times resumed Dec. 3 ("Little Learners") with 14 attendees, and the library plans additional programs including a "Merry Magical Christmas" show on Dec. 20 at 2 p.m., with Santa and family activities.
Bebout described ongoing cleaning routines instituted during the COVID period, noting returned materials are wiped and dried before being recirculated. She thanked IT staff and library assistants for their work in getting services restored.
The library did not provide a firm timeline for when patron computers will be available again; Bebout said staff and IT are working on the issue.
