Summary
A district safety-plan addendum formalizing AED, CPR and medical emergency annexes was posted for 30 days after Mr. Flynn explained the addendum responds to a state cardiac emergency memo; the district said teaching AED/CPR and Stop the Bleed awareness to secondary students will continue and the addendum will be adopted after the comment period.
The board opened a 30-day public comment period on an addendum to the districtwide safety plan that formalizes emergency-response elements, including AED, CPR and medical annexes.
Mr. Flynn said the addendum reflects a state memo issued Aug. 14 on cardiac emergency response and that the district has long included AED/CPR elements in building and district plans. He thanked Janine Caramore, Ryan Ruff, school nurses and the athletic department for their role in preparing and implementing training.
"The good news is the district, for many years, has had embedded in both their building level and district wide plan, AED, CPR, and medical, emergency annexes," Mr. Flynn said, describing students' recent awareness training and Stop the Bleed instruction.
Administration said the addendum will be posted on the district website for public feedback during a 30-day adoption period and that the board will consider adoption after that comment window closes. The presentation noted secondary-level awareness efforts have reached several thousand students through AED/CPR and Stop the Bleed instruction.
Why it matters: the addendum formalizes emergency-response practices that affect student and staff safety and clarifies how the district will continue training and community collaboration.
Next steps: the addendum will be available online during the 30-day comment period; staff will return to the board to recommend adoption after public input is reviewed.
