Board approves administrative appointment, retains VSBA and affirms superintendent's recommendation on appeal

Superintendent Daniel Cotton reported the appointment of Michelle L. Smith from Assistant Director of Transportation to Director of Transportation, effective Dec. 15, 2025; the board approved the appointment by voice vote.
Board member John McCormick moved that the board retain the Virginia School Boards Association to assist with the superintendent search process; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
On an appeal under School Board Policy 9-21 related to a student disciplinary matter (referred to as Student 1), Norman Poole moved to support the superintendent's recommendation; the motion carried with all board members voting yes.
These items were adopted by the board without extended deliberation during the post-closed-session actions portion of the agenda.
