The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners held a public hearing and approved a resolution to participate in a revenue bond financing that will help acquire several radiation oncology centers, including one located in Jackson County on Barters Mill Road.
Daniel Moore, introduced to the board as the presenter for the financing, described how proceeds would be used and said the aggregated total of the bonds "will not exceed $190,000,000." He added that the portion for the Jackson County project "will not exceed $6,500,000." Moore also stated the county would not be liable for repayment: "No cost, no liability," he said.
The presentation explained bond proceeds would finance the project, provide a reserve deposit if required and cover issuance costs. Commissioners asked Moore about the issuer's prior experience; Moore said the authority had conducted similar financings in other counties and states but that this was the first such issuance in Jackson County.
Members of the public expressed support for local access to oncology services. One speaker noted that roughly 2,000 people received about 2,000 treatments last year at the provider, and another said having local services "helps people heal better." After public comment, the board closed the hearing, moved and seconded to approve the resolution and authorized the chairman to sign.
The board recorded on the public record that the county does not assume liability or repayment obligation for the bonds. No bond rate, underwriter, or purchaser information was provided on the record beyond the maximum aggregated and project-level amounts stated by Moore; the resolution was approved by voice vote.
