District leaders outline PLCs, MTSS, 'house' system and CKLA/TNTP work in school presentations

One principal said staff requested an additional year to 'dial in' RTI scheduling and stressed a shift toward proactive interventions to avoid students reaching eligibility lists for extra services.
Jerry (district presenter) summarized building-level activities: PLCs integrated with RTI; activity programs such as music and a book-vending incentive; Friday school serving roughly 61 students for enrichment and assessments; a 'house' system to build culture (monthly celebrations and an annual 'house cup'); a young authors program coordinated by Candace Halligan; and a greenhouse project that supplied some produce for the school cafeteria.
The district discussed standards and professional development work with TNTP (The New Teacher Project). Speaker 5 described using TNTP instructional-practice guidelines and principal coaching to deepen lesson planning and use of complex text. Funding for TNTP training initially used a YBL grant; after that money was exhausted the district switched remaining support to Title II funds. Grade 5 CKLA materials were not purchased because of concerns about the grade 5 tests; teachers are developing local materials for that grade.
Administrators reported facility and safety work tied to instruction and student environment: fire alarm adjustments and added exterior beacons at Pine West Elementary, lighting improvements, a planned security fence at Pine Bluffs Elementary, and an ADA accessibility compliance audit with an action plan due Jan. 28 and final remediation targeted for Oct. 26, 2026.
Ending: District leaders said they will continue workshops for principals after the holiday break, pursue grant application steps where eligible, and follow up on ADA and transportation items noted in the meeting.
