Appling County Recreation Department named GRPA Agency of the Year

Steve Card, executive director of the Georgia Recreation and Park Association, presented the 2025 Agency of the Year award to Appling County Recreation Department at the county commission meeting.
Card said the award recognizes agencies that demonstrate leadership and service; he highlighted the department’s staff development, its response and resilience after Hurricane Helene, and new programming such as Appling Athletes that spotlights residents with special needs. Card noted the award competition was highly competitive this year and that Appling County’s submission stood out for its staff work and community engagement.
County leaders accepted the award and praised recreation staff. Commissioners said the award reflected significant improvements in the department’s operations, pointed to increased athletic participation and attendance at events, and thanked staff for their work. The award presentation concluded with the county accepting the commemorative recognition and a request to congratulate the recreation staff.
