The Adelanto Elementary School District Board of Trustees completed its annual organization business on Dec. 12, electing officers and assigning representative roles for the coming term.
Trustee Sotto was elected board president after a nomination and roll‑call vote that passed 3–2, with Trustees LaFrenche and Stewart recorded as voting no. Trustees then selected a vice president, clerk and other representative posts. The vice president nomination passed 3–2 after discussion about a recent change in title and whether the board followed required bylaws and notice; Trustee LaFrenche raised concerns about information sharing and process. Trustee Stewart was elected board clerk in a unanimous 5–0 vote after verbally accepting the role.
Other appointments approved by unanimous votes included Trustee LaFrenche as board representative and Trustee Krause as legislative representative (the legislative representative role was described in policy as monitoring pending legislation, reporting regularly to the board, and serving up to two years). The board also appointed the superintendent to serve as the board secretary; that motion passed 5–0.
Trustees debated a proposed change to nomination procedure — a suggestion that a nominee’s acceptance count as a second — and several trustees raised points of order that motions still require a first and second under Robert’s Rules; the president agreed to continue with the traditional process and to seek bylaw review if changes to procedure are desired.
The newly elected president used the occasion to outline priorities for teamwork, student focus and improved governance moving into the new year.
