Board approves consent agenda, a resolution backing ranchers on wolves and accepts Terragen safety donation

The board approved the consent agenda by voice vote after the chair closed public comment on routine items. Later in the meeting, Supervisor Michael Peters moved a resolution directing staff to draft language affirming county support for livestock producers, opposing further establishment of wolf packs in Kern County and urging state and federal wildlife agencies to account for the county’s agricultural interests; Supervisor Parlier seconded the motion and the board voted to approve it (“all ayes”). The board did not place additional policy language on the record during the motion; the referral instructs staff to return a draft resolution for later consideration.
On agenda item 30 the board considered an in-kind donation from TerraGen LLC to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office for public-safety equipment and to appropriate $82,489 in unanticipated revenue to mid-year capital asset acquisitions. Supervisor Parlier presented the item; a county chief deputy said the equipment, including drones and related technology, will be used for patrols, search-and-rescue and area searches in eastern Kern. A Terragen representative described the company’s local operations. The board moved and approved acceptance of the donation and the appropriation.
The meeting also included public presentations in which residents raised concerns ranging from alleged mishandling of a veteran’s burial flag to foster-care response, vegetation and fire-risk on a county trail, and local school funding needs. Leadership Bakersfield presented a community project to renovate the Jamieson Center intake area and reported more than $18,000 raised and a $5,400 Home Depot grant.
The board adjourned to closed session with plans to reconvene at 2 p.m.
