Kern LAFCO adopts SB 707 teleconferencing resolution reflecting Brown Act changes

Kern County LAFCO voted to adopt a teleconferencing resolution reflecting Brown Act changes enacted by Senate Bill 707, which take effect Jan. 1. The resolution formalizes the procedures the commission will use for remote attendance.
Staff member Schroeder summarized the changes and said the amendments "affect LAFCO less than cities and counties" but add new specific reasons that permit remote attendance, including care for immunocompromised family members, family medical emergency and military service. He also said commissioners attending remotely will still need to disclose who is in the room with them when required and that LAFCO must provide a written resolution describing the chosen teleconferencing format.
Commissioners moved to adopt the drafted resolution and voted in favor; the motion passed by roll-call vote. Staff said they will use the same teleconference format the commission has been using and will provide Brown Act materials to new commissioners as required.
