Kern County Local Agency Formation Commission accepted the results of a conducting-authority protest hearing for the East Kern Healthcare District annexation and approved the annexation after staff reported minimal protest activity.
Executive Officer Knox told the commission the protest hearing held Oct. 14 in Ridgecrest drew about 50 attendees and recorded 12 registered voter protests out of roughly 21,000 registered voters and 12 landowner protests by assessed value (about $3,260,000,000), both amounts below the statutory thresholds. Knox recommended the commission "accept the results of the protest hearing."
During public comment, online participant Renee Lusk said she supported the annexation and thanked commissioners for their prior vote. Commissioners then moved and seconded a motion to accept the hearing results; the roll-call vote was recorded as all ayes and the motion passed.
The Commission’s action follows the conducting-authority process required under state law and clears the way for implementation steps identified in staff recommendations.
