Commission presses USA Boxing on member‑eligibility letter and data sharing

Commissioners reviewed an October 30 letter circulated by USA Boxing instructing its members against participating in events sanctioned by other organizations without prior clearance. USA Boxing representative Mike McAtee told the commission the policy aims to protect athletes from repeat head injury and second-impact concerns and cited instances in which members suffered fatal outcomes after unreported injuries. "Health and safety is the number 1 reason we have this rule," McAtee said.

Some commissioners recommended a less absolute approach: rather than barring members from all other events, USA Boxing could require disclosure and reporting so suspensions and medical events are shared across delegated organizations. USA Boxing acknowledged limits in cross‑organization data sharing and said it will improve coordination and submit its rulebook and communications to staff going forward.
