Tri‑County CAP awarded $1.65 million; Perry County staff say projects will direct funds locally

County staff told the Perry County Planning Commission Dec. 17 that the Tri‑County CAP program (a cooperative effort including Mifflin, Juniata, Snyder and Perry counties) was awarded $1,652,102 in the latest round of grant funding.
Staff said the conservation district now has greater staffing capacity (a director and watershed coordinator) and that identified projects will channel grant funds into projects across the region, with some allocation coming to Perry County. Staff said the county has identified multiple projects that could be supported and estimated that the conservation district is looking at several million dollars’ worth of project work in the area, but did not provide a county‑level allocation or a precise per‑project budget at the meeting.
A commissioner noted that different counties within the Tri‑County program have used CAP funds for a variety of activities — from cover crops to stream restoration — and said Perry County’s allocation in this round is greater than in prior rounds in part because of improved staff capacity. Staff emphasized that project lists and funding distributions will be developed as the conservation district and CAP committee finalize priorities.
Next steps: Staff will work with the conservation district and the Tri‑County CAP committee to refine the list of Perry County projects and return with more detailed budgets and schedules.
