"This ordinance establishes operating rules, safety requirements, permit and registration standards through the police department," said a city staff member during the hearing.
The ordinance was introduced during a public‑hearing segment that preceded the vote; no members of the public spoke in opposition during the council hearing. Council moved, seconded and approved the ordinance on a voice vote that the presiding official recorded as passing.
City staff told the council the measure is intended to provide clearer enforcement tools and an explicit penalty schedule. The ordinance sets procedures for notice, findings of fact, severability and an effective date consistent with the city code. Next steps include implementation by affected departments and public notice to short‑term rental owners and property managers.
The council will publish the ordinance and notification materials as required by the Alpine Code of Ordinances; enforcement actions and any appeals will be handled through the city’s standard administrative processes.
