The Princeton Board of Education on Aug. 1 approved its July 2025 financial report, authorized a $35,510.63 transfer from the athletic tournament fund to the athletic operating fund and approved a memorandum of understanding with Newsela to participate in a classroom research pilot.
The financial report included the district nnual certification of investments in commercial paper, which the treasurer said is required by state statute and the state auditor. Treasurer Missus Perry told the board the packet also documented two larger internal transfers completed in June: $4,000,000 into the 070 capital outlay fund and $4,000,000 into fund 003 (a PI fund designated for textbook and technology adoptions).
"We've done it several years now," Missus Perry said of the annual investment report and explained the two $4,000,000 moves are for capital and instructional-adoption tracking. The board approved the July report by voice vote.
Members then approved the routine, annual transfer of tournament proceeds into athletic operations. Missus Perry stated the amount to be transferred was $35,510.63 and noted that available revenue varies with facility availability and construction on the stadium.
"$35,510.63," Missus Perry said when announcing the sum to be moved into the athletic operating fund.
The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with Newsela to participate in a research study. A presenter said the district already uses Newsela and that the MOU will provide "4 free licenses" for a seventh- and eighth-grade science pilot while the district and the vendor exchange findings.
"They're gonna give us 4 free licenses to use to do that research study," the presenter said. "We already use them."
All motions reported in the meeting were moved, seconded and approved by recorded voice votes. The board subsequently entered executive session twice during the meeting to discuss employee employment and compensation under Ohio Revised Code section 121.22(G)(1); no substantive personnel actions were announced in open session.
What happens next: The district will submit an updated forecast to the state reflecting the June transfers and will move forward with the Newsela pilot as described in the MOU.
