Applicant Chandra Wambles told the commission she will open Black Squirrel Cafe in a storefront owned by Mike Bessel and proposed a round hanging sign plus vinyl lettering above the door. Commissioners expressed concern that vinyl applied directly to aged wood would peel and recommended a small backing board or a metal backing so the lettering will adhere and remain readable.
Wambles said the round sign would hang from an existing bracket and that she preferred the look of vinyl lettering for the transom but could use a backing if recommended. A commissioner moved to accept the round hanging sign and the transom lettering as submitted provided the applicant uses an appropriate backing so the lettering will remain adhered; the motion passed by voice vote.
Wambles said she hopes to open the cafe on or about October 15, but described that date as tentative. The commission welcomed the new business to the village and the approval allows the applicant to proceed with the approved signage once installed.
