The Natural Resources and Environmental Commission on Dec. 16 voted to adopt a resolution setting its 2026 regular meeting dates and times at 6:30 p.m. The calendar approved by roll call lists meetings on Jan. 27, March 24, May 26, July 28, Sept. 22 and Nov. 17, with the Nov. 17 date adjusted around Thanksgiving.
Staff (Danielle) presented the council‑passed resolution and explained the schedule is intended to standardize the commission’s cadence and help with staffing and public transparency. Commissioners and the public raised questions about the shift to every‑other‑month meetings; staff said the change was intended to balance workloads, reflect consolidation of some commissions and give staff more time to prepare materials.
A public commenter noted the reduced frequency also reduces opportunities for the commission to interact on items such as the city tree ordinance; commissioners asked about the process for calling special meetings and staff confirmed that the chair may request special meetings with at least 72 hours’ public posting when needed.
The commission approved the resolution by roll‑call vote. The resolution binds the commission’s internal calendar and will be posted on the city website; commissioners may still request special meetings when urgent items arise.
Provenance: staff presentation (resolution text and dates), Q&A about special meetings, public comment on frequency and interaction with tree ordinance and roll call approval.
