The Chesterfield County Finance Committee entered executive session on Dec. 15 to discuss personnel matters related to the solicitor’s office, then approved a motion to forward a hiring recommendation to the County Council.
At the start of the executive-session motion, Mister Bryant read the statutory basis aloud: “At this time, in pursuit of South Florida code section 34 70 a 1, the committee is now entering into executive session for the discussion of employment, appointment, compensation, promotion, demotion, discipline, or release of an employee regarding the solicitor's office.” The committee voted to enter executive session by voice vote.
The committee announced that while in executive session no votes were cast and no motions were made. After reconvening in open session, S3 moved that the committee take to County Council the discussion about hiring another solicitor for the solicitor's office; S2 seconded and the motion carried by voice vote.
The meeting minutes recorded the motion and that it carried; the County Council will receive the hiring recommendation and decide on next steps. The committee adjourned after completing that referral.
Next steps: the hiring recommendation will be placed on the County Council agenda for consideration; no additional detail about the candidate, terms or effective dates was provided in the committee transcript.
