Board approves 2026–27 calendar and hears staffing plans for Lincoln View Elementary opening

Administrators presented the proposed calendar: 173 elementary student days, 175 secondary student days, a school start on Aug. 12, 2026, and a last day of school on May 21, 2027. Graduation was scheduled for May 9, 2027. The board moved, seconded and approved the calendar by roll-call vote.
Dr. Settles provided enrollment figures (an October snapshot showing the district up 51 students to 12,120) and staffing projections tied to Lincoln View’s planned opening at approximately 229 students. Staffing requests for the new school include a principal, an instructional coach, a counselor and specials time; the administration projected a net addition of three elementary classroom teachers districtwide and planned to post classified positions closer to spring.
Special-education staffing was highlighted: the district intends to convert a .5 teacher-of-the-deaf position into a full-time role (adding the additional .5) and to add at least two special-education teachers to maintain effective caseloads. Administrators said classified roles (office support, health para, media para, custodial staff) will be added as needed and that some positions may be shifted from other buildings.
Board members noted the budgetary implications and the need to monitor legislative developments that could create unfunded mandates. Dr. Settles said administrators would return with more specific staffing postings and answer questions at the Dec. 8 meeting.
