Board hears bond-funded renovation plans for Patriot and Walnut Creek elementaries

District facilities staff and consultants from BCDM presented design and construction plans for the Patriot and Walnut Creek elementary renovation projects funded by the district bond program.

Brett Richards introduced the scope and schedule; Greg Stern of BCDM walked the board through site plans and interior layouts for both schools. The projects include kitchen additions, new ADA-accessible sidewalks, playground-surface replacement, reconfigured loading-dock ramps, and relocation of administrative suites to create secured entrance vestibules.

Stern described interior upgrades across both schools: ceiling-grid replacements, new lighting and finishes, upgrades to mechanical, electrical and fire-alarm systems, added telecom wiring, card readers on exterior doors, perimeter fencing, security film on windows and newly configured learning-center spaces. He said the design also emphasizes wayfinding and school branding through color-coded nodes and refreshed media centers.

Contractors Boyd Jones and Sampson were identified as prime contractors for the two sites, with phased construction beginning as early as spring 2026 for site work and completing by summer 2027. Officials said the project teams are preparing subcontract bids and expect to return to the board with guaranteed maximum prices at a future meeting.

Board members asked about finishing kitchens and whether all elementary schools would ultimately receive them; presenters said these projects will complete the district’s progressive rollout so every elementary will have a kitchen under the bond work.

The board thanked the presenters and noted the projects will wrap up the major bond-funded elementary renovations scheduled through 2027.
