Board member Jeff Johnson announced his resignation from the Keystone Central School District board effective Jan. 1, 2026, saying ongoing conduct and direction of the board left him unable to continue.
In a prepared statement Johnson said he had served since 2019 and listed concerns including a growing lack of trust toward administrative staff, repeated demands for information already provided and what he described as a pattern of micromanagement. "A board's primary responsibility is to always act first and foremost in the best interest of students," he said, and added that he no longer felt that balance was being maintained. He announced his resignation to take effect on 01/01/2026.
Superintendent Dr. Redmond confirmed the board would begin the process to fill the vacancy, saying the district will advertise and set tentative interviews for the first week back after the holiday (week of Jan. 5); under state law the board has 30 days from the date of the vacancy to appoint a replacement. The board president asked the superintendent and secretary to begin logistical steps to attract applicants and to schedule interviews in early January.
What's next: The administration will publish the vacancy notice, accept candidate materials and tentatively schedule interviews the week the board reconvenes in January. The new appointee will be selected under the same process the board used earlier to fill a prior vacancy.
