Cookeville council awards sewer and waterline contracts, approves TDOT-related engineering amendment

Cookeville — The City Council unanimously approved multiple procurement and contract actions for water, sewer and road-related utility work.
Randy Turner presented the 2025 Ridgetale low-pressure sewer project, which will serve 26 parcels. Two bids were received and the low bid of $313,456.50 was recommended by staff; council voted to award the contract.
Turner then described the 2025 North Cookeville Waterline Project to replace galvanized 2-inch pipe and install a mix of 2-inch and 6-inch mains. Two bids were received; the low bid of $550,700 was recommended and approved.
Turner also presented Amendment No. 2 to the engineering agreement for utility installation and relocation tied to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) South Jefferson Avenue widening project. The amendment would add $47,755 to the design/inspection budget. Turner said TDOT is paying 100% of the engineering amount and 80% of inspection costs and the city would need to negotiate additional TDOT coverage for the amendment. Council approved the amendment unanimously and instructed staff to pursue reimbursement negotiations with TDOT as needed.
What’s next: Staff will finalize contracts with the successful bidders and pursue TDOT adjustments on inspection/engineering reimbursements as discussed in the meeting.
