Northside to seek approval for 'Student to Industry Connection' to give ALE students graduation credit

District administrators presented an "innovative course" proposal for Adaptive/Alternate Learning Education (ALE) students called "Student to Industry Connection," and said they will place the course on the Dec. 9 consent agenda so the district can submit it to the Texas Education Agency for approval.
What it would do: The course is intended to replace a set of local-credit courses some ALE students currently take so that, when implemented, the content would yield a high-school credit that counts toward graduation while delivering stronger work-based learning. Staff said only a small number of ALE students currently take the three local credits referenced and that the innovative-course model would help students who entered Northside behind due to residential-treatment transfers or other challenging placements.
Teacher training and implementation: Presenters said teachers who will deliver the course must complete work-based learning training; those already teaching ALE work-based learning would not need an additional certification. Staff emphasized there is a semester and summer window to prepare before the course would take effect in 2026–27.
Board action: Staff recommended placing the item on the Dec. 9 consent agenda so the district may queue the submission to TEA for next-year implementation.
