The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners voted Dec. 18 to approve a payment-processing agreement to allow card payments for in-office and out-of-state requests for county records.
Speaker 2 described the change as a way to shorten delays for out-of-state customers who currently must mail checks and wait days for documents. Speaker 2 said the vendor charges a $1.95 per-transaction fee to the cardholder and noted a 2.75% fee tier referenced after an initial 100-copy threshold. Commissioners discussed whether the payments would be routed into a new or existing bank account and whether county offices should standardize on a single processor; Speaker 2 said the proposed system integrates with the county’s CSI system and would simplify reporting.
Speaker 3 moved to accept the payment-processing agreement and Speaker 1 seconded; the motion was approved by voice vote.
The board recorded no further public comment. The treasurer/recorder’s office was asked to coordinate implementation and to bring follow-up details for cross-office standardization at a later date.
